Lunar Love Perinatal Support

doula • educator • sleep expert

Hi, I’m Dez.

The woman behind Lunar Love Perinatal Support.

My path into birth work began while studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an interest in perinatal mental health. The more I learned about pregnancy, birth trauma, postpartum mental health, and the realities families faced after bringing a baby home, the more I noticed the same problem appearing again and again: parents were expected to make enormous decisions with very little preparation for what was actually ahead of them. I also learned that, sociologically, as we evolved, many no longer had essential knowledge about birth, lactation, recovery, and child-rearing that had once been passed down by community wise women, midwives, or even their own family members. I created my company to merge the practices of all of the women who came before us, while applying modern scientific research, and maintaining being an open and welcoming practitioner to the humans of all genders, ethnicities, and situations that come into my care.

My Approach to Support

I began my doula career in 2021 and have since supported more than 100 families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and the transition into early parenthood. My clients have ranged from young and underserved parents navigating pregnancy with limited support to experienced parents welcoming their third baby. Through my experiences, the work I continually found myself drawn back to is education, especially helping first-time parents make sense of an experience that can feel incredibly overwhelming from the outside. Over the years, that passion has expanded beyond birth support into childbirth education, postpartum care, newborn education, and pediatric sleep.

I believe parents deserve to understand the why, not just be handed another list of things they are supposed to do.

That means I will talk you through your options instead of choosing for you. I will explain what your newborn may be communicating, rather than expecting you to magically know. And when something doesn't go according to plan—as pregnancy, birth, babies, and sleep frequently do—we'll work with the family and baby in front of us rather than chasing someone else's idea of perfect. My work is evidence-informed, responsive, practical, and intentionally judgment-free. There is room here for medicated and unmedicated births, breast and bottle feeding, scheduled and flexible families, parents who have researched everything, and parents who are starting from square one.

The goal is always the same: for you to need me a little less every visit because you trust yourself a little more, feel a little better, and start to return to yourself.

More Than a Doula

Lunar Love was never meant to be a service where someone simply arrives, helps for a few hours, and disappears. I want families to leave our work together understanding birth better, recognizing their baby's cues more easily, knowing where to turn when something feels outside of their scope, and feeling far more capable than they did when we first met. Sometimes that looks like squeezing hips through contractions. Sometimes it's taking the overnight shift so exhausted parents can finally sleep. Sometimes it's sitting on the nursery floor, talking through why a baby suddenly won't nap. And sometimes it's simply being the calm person in the room who can say,

“Here’s what’s happening. Here are your options. What feels right for you?”
