Newborn Nervous System + Sleep
Understanding your newborn's developing nervous system is the first step toward supporting healthy sleep. This specialized class explores the relationship between neurological development, infant regulation, responsive caregiving, and newborn sleep patterns. Parents will learn how to recognize their baby's cues, support nervous system regulation, create a calming sleep environment, and establish developmentally appropriate sleep foundations rooted in connection, safety, and realistic expectations.
-
Our Newborn Nervous System and Sleep class introduces parents to the science behind infant regulation and sleep development. Through evidence-based education, practical demonstrations, and guided discussion, you'll explore:
Understanding the developing newborn nervous system
Recognizing newborn behavioral states and communication cues
Supporting nervous system regulation through responsive caregiving
Creating calming, regulation-supportive environments
Understanding newborn sleep biology and circadian rhythm development
The relationship between feeding, regulation, and sleep
Establishing healthy and responsive sleep foundations
Safe sleep practices, contact naps, and sleep environments
Setting realistic expectations for newborn sleep development
-
Our Newborn Nervous System and Sleep course includes 3 hours of instruction, offered as either one comprehensive 3-hour workshop or two 1.5-hour sessions.
Both in-person and virtual instruction are available, allowing families to choose the learning environment that best suits their needs. Private instruction, scheduled group classes, and privately organized group classes are offered, with opportunities for guided discussion, demonstrations, and practical application.

This class is designed for expecting parents and families with newborns who want a deeper understanding of infant development and sleep. It's especially helpful for parents interested in responsive caregiving, understanding their baby's nervous system, and establishing healthy sleep foundations without relying on rigid schedules or unrealistic developmental expectations.
-
We recommend taking this class during your third trimester or within your baby's first three months of life. Learning about newborn sleep and regulation before birth can help families establish realistic expectations, while parents with newborns can immediately apply what they learn to their daily caregiving routines.
-
Absolutely! Partners and caregivers are encouraged to participate. Understanding infant regulation and sleep is valuable for anyone involved in caring for your baby, especially when sharing nighttime responsibilities and responding to infant cues. Each ticket is good for one “team” meaning one pregnant person and whom they have chosen to support them.
-
No. This course focuses on understanding newborn sleep development and supporting healthy sleep foundations rather than teaching traditional sleep training methods. We'll explore normal newborn sleep patterns, nervous system co-regulation, responsive settling, and developmentally appropriate routines that support your baby's evolving needs.
-
Newborns are biologically designed to wake frequently, particularly for feeding, and sleeping through the night is not a realistic expectation for every young infant. Rather than promising uninterrupted sleep, this class teaches parents how to understand their baby's sleep patterns, recognize signs of fatigue and overstimulation, and create conditions that support healthy sleep development over time.
-
Newborns are still developing the neurological systems responsible for managing stress, sensory stimulation, and sleep-wake patterns. Through responsive caregiving and co-regulation, parents can help their babies settle from states of distress or overstimulation. This class explores how infant development, environmental stimulation, and caregiver responses influence sleep readiness and settling.
-
Yes! Safe sleep is an essential part of the curriculum. We'll discuss evidence-based safe sleep recommendations, sleep environments, swaddling, contact naps, infant sleep products, and strategies for managing caregiver fatigue while prioritizing infant safety.
-
Yes! You'll learn how to develop a flexible, responsive approach to newborn sleep that considers your baby's developmental stage, individual cues, feeding needs, and family routines. Rather than providing a rigid sleep schedule, we'll focus on practical strategies for supporting regulation, recognizing sleep readiness, and establishing a safe and sustainable sleep environment.
