Birth Doula Support

Birth rarely follows a perfect script, and you shouldn’t need one to feel prepared

Birth Doula Support at Lunar Love is designed to give you the knowledge, tools, and continuous support you need to navigate pregnancy and birth with greater confidence. Together, we'll prepare for the experience you're hoping for while ensuring you understand your options if labor takes an unexpected turn.

Whether you're planning an epidural, hoping for an unmedicated birth, preparing for an induction or cesarean, or simply aren't sure what you want yet, there is space for you here.

Support for the Birth You Actually Have

You don't need someone in the room with an agenda for how you should give birth. You need someone who knows you, understands what matters to you, and can help you make sense of what's happening when birth becomes intense, unfamiliar, or unpredictable. My role as your doula is a combination of educator, steady support, and an extra set of experienced hands.

Before labor, we'll spend time learning about birth, talking through your preferences, practicing comfort techniques, and preparing both you and your support person for what may happen.

During labor, I'll provide continuous emotional and physical support—from position changes, counterpressure, movement, and comfort techniques to helping you slow things down when new information or decisions are presented.

And when plans change, I'll help you understand your options, formulate questions for your medical team, and create enough space for you to decide what feels right.

What Support Looks Like at LLPS

Before Birth

Our work begins well before contractions do. Prenatal support gives us time to get to know one another, explore your hopes and concerns, discuss birth preferences, learn comfort techniques, and make sure both you and your support person understand what to expect.

This is also where we prepare for the what-ifs—not because we expect something to go wrong, but because understanding your options before you're making decisions in labor can make those moments feel considerably less overwhelming.

During Labor + Delivery

That may look like hands-on counterpressure, massage, movement and positioning, breathing and grounding techniques, environmental changes, helping your partner support you, explaining unfamiliar terminology, or simply creating a calm presence when everything around you feels busy.

After Baby Arrives

Support doesn't disappear the moment your baby is born. I'll remain with you through the immediate postpartum period as everyone settles in, helping protect space for those first moments together and providing basic feeding and newborn support as needed.

We'll also reconnect after birth to check in on recovery, feeding, newborn adjustment, and how you're processing your birth experience. If something falls outside my scope, I'll help connect you with the right professional or community resource.

Your Support Includes

Three Prenatal Visits
We’ll meet three times before birth to prepare for labor, talk through your preferences and concerns, practice comfort measures, discuss common interventions, and make sure both you and your support person feel prepared for the range of ways birth may unfold. This is not a replacement for childbirth education, which ideally should be completed before your second prenatal visit. I offer childbirth education classes and am happy to recommend local educators if you would like a second opinion!

#1: Get to know you visit • #2: Comfort measures, coping skills, early labor and labor review • #3: Newborn care + postpartum recovery.

Text + Email Support During Work Hours
Between visits, you’ll have access to me for questions, resources, and guidance as pregnancy progresses. Whether you want to talk through something from an appointment, review your options, or ask a question that came up between visits, ongoing support is built into your care. I return messages promptly Sunday - Thursday and within 24 hours on weekends or if I am in another client’s labor.

On-Call Support From 38–42 Weeks
Beginning at 38 weeks, I am officially on call for your birth through 42 weeks of pregnancy. For families navigating a high-risk pregnancy or circumstances that make an earlier birth more likely, on-call availability can be extended to begin at 36 weeks at your providers recomendation

Up to 18 Hours of Continuous Labor Support
Once active birth support begins, I remain with you through labor and birth for up to 18 hours of continuous care. During that time, support may include positioning, movement, counterpressure, massage, grounding techniques, environmental support, partner guidance, and assistance with understanding options or questions that arise throughout labor. During early labor, I am available by phone or text any time, day or night, to help you. Knowing when to call can be the hardest part for clients, and something we will cover in your prenatal!

Two Hours of Immediate Postpartum Support
After your baby arrives, I’ll remain with you for up to two hours as your family settles in. This time may include feeding support, guidance on newborn care, helping to create a calm environment, and making sure you feel comfortable and supported before I leave. You can also opt to have a quiet golden hour and a longer (or second) postpartum visit at home.

Postpartum Follow-Up Within Your First Week Home
Once you’re home and beginning to find your footing as a family, we’ll reconnect for a postpartum visit. We can talk through recovery, feeding, newborn care, your birth experience, and any questions that have come up since leaving your birth location. If you have hired me for postpartum doula support, we will figure out what your needs look like then as well.

Optional Six-Week Postpartum Visit
Families who would like additional continuity can add a second postpartum visit around six weeks after birth. This gives us another opportunity to check in on recovery, family adjustment, newborn care, and any new concerns that have developed as the early postpartum haze begins to settle.

Client Reviews

“My husband and I are so eternally thankful for Dez and her expertise, love, and support through our journey in bringing our first baby into the world. I tell people all the time my pregnancy and delivery were a dream, and I owe most of it to Dez! She was so kind and caring and gives you so much of her time to map out your birthing visions and bring those to life. She is so considerate and does not judge when it comes to your wants and really helps you feel confident in your decisions as a (new) parent. Dez was always available, always checked in, and asked the important questions. Her knowledge and availability is so invaluable when you’re in the thick of it all! When it came to postpartum, Dez specializes in really looking after the mom and holding her through the peaks and pits of postpartum. Dez was so easy to talk to and a comforting human to be around- having her guide me through delivery was so special.

I cannot recommend Dez enough for anyone looking for a doula! I hope she helps bring all my babies into the world!'“

Birth Client

“Dez was an essential part of my birth team. She made space for me to have my own wishes, even when it wasn’t the exact plan the doctors had for my labor. She integrated well with my nurses, always making sure everyone was on the same page and they felt comfortable with what she was doing. Dez was available to answer the craziest questions I had and never made me feel dumb for asking. She took her time in our prenatals, making sure. we felt confident and prepared for our next appointment. When things got rough in my pregnancy, she is the first one I thought to call. Dez will forever feel like part of our family, and I think of her every year on my son’s birthday. If you are looking for a doula who feels like your best friend, biggest cheerleader, and no-nonsense disher, you will absolutely love her.”
